Las Prepositions of Movement son preposiciones que indican hacia dónde se dirige alguien o algo. A diferencia de las preposiciones de lugar, que indican posición estática, las preposiciones de movimiento indican dirección o desplazamiento.

Example	Translation
She walked to the park.	Ella caminó al parque.
He ran to the store.	Él corrió a la tienda.
They drove to the city.	Ellos condujeron a la ciudad.
I went to the kitchen.	Fui a la cocina.
We moved to another house.	Nos mudamos a otra casa.

into y onto

into indica movimiento hacia el interior de algo. onto indica movimiento hacia la superficie de algo.

The dog jumped into the pool.	El perro saltó a la piscina.
She walked into the room.	Ella entró a la habitación.
He threw the ball into the basket.	Él lanzó la pelota al cesto.
She walked into the store.	Ella entró a la tienda.
He stepped into the elevator.	Él entró al ascensor.
The cat jumped onto the table.	El gato saltó sobre la mesa.
The cat jumped onto the roof.	El gato saltó al techo.

out of y off

out of indica movimiento desde el interior hacia afuera. off indica movimiento desde la superficie hacia abajo.

The bird flew out of the cage.	El pájaro voló fuera de la jaula.
She walked out of the building.	Ella salió del edificio.
He ran out of the room.	Él salió corriendo de la habitación.
He stepped out of the car.	Él salió del auto.
They ran out of the building.	Ellos salieron corriendo del edificio.
The cat jumped off the chair.	El gato saltó de la silla.
The book fell off the table.	El libro cayó de la mesa.

across y through

across indica movimiento de un lado al otro de una superficie. through indica movimiento por el interior de un espacio.

He swam across the river.	Él nadó a través del río.
They swam across the lake.	Ellos nadaron a través del lago.
He walked across the bridge.	Él caminó a través del puente.
We walked through the park.	Caminamos a través del parque.
She walked through the tunnel.	Ella caminó a través del túnel.
They drove through the city.	Ellos condujeron a través de la ciudad.
He ran through the forest.	Él corrió a través del bosque.

around y along

around indica movimiento en círculo alrededor de algo. along indica movimiento a lo largo de algo.

The car drove around the block.	El auto condujo alrededor de la cuadra.
They walked around the lake.	Ellos caminaron alrededor del lago.
We walked around the building.	Caminamos alrededor del edificio.
She walked along the river.	Ella caminó a lo largo del río.
They walked along the beach.	Ellos caminaron a lo largo de la playa.
She walked along the street.	Ella caminó a lo largo de la calle.
He drove along the coast.	Él condujo a lo largo de la costa.

toward y away from

toward indica movimiento en dirección a algo o alguien. away from indica movimiento en dirección contraria, alejándose.

He walked toward the station.	Él caminó hacia la estación.
She ran toward the door.	Ella corrió hacia la puerta.
The dog ran toward its owner.	El perro corrió hacia su dueño.
She walked toward the bus stop.	Ella caminó hacia la parada de autobús.
He walked away from the house.	Él se alejó de la casa.
They ran away from the noise.	Ellos se alejaron del ruido.
The boy ran away from the dog.	El niño se alejó del perro.

back to, up y down

back to indica movimiento de regreso a un lugar. up indica movimiento hacia arriba. down indica movimiento hacia abajo.

They walked back to the car.	Ellos caminaron de regreso al auto.
He walked back to school.	Él caminó de regreso a la escuela.
The child climbed up the ladder.	El niño subió la escalera.

He walked down the stairs.	Él bajó las escaleras.
