Second Conditional / Segundo Condicional

Utilizamos el Segundo Condicional cuando expresamos el resultado de una situación hipotética poco probable. En otras palabras, es poco probable que la condición se cumpla.

Estructura	If + Simple Past	Would + Base Form

El orden de las cláusulas no cambia el significado. Solamente debes separar las cláusulas con una coma cuando la If Clause está al principio.

Afirmativa: If I were rich, I would help poor people.

Afirmativa (cláusulas invertidas): I would help poor people if I were rich.

Negativa: If I were you, I would not say that.

Ojo: Con el verbo To Be en la If Clause se usa were para todos los sujetos (I/he/she/it/we/they), aunque en el habla informal también se acepta was con I/he/she/it.

If I were you es la forma más frecuente del Second Conditional en el habla cotidiana. Se usa para dar consejos. Equivale a "Yo en tu lugar..." o "Si yo fuera tú...". Ejemplos:

If you lived closer to the cinema, you would go more often.	Si vivieras más cerca del cine, irías más a menudo.
If I were you, I would learn English.	Si yo fuera tú, aprendería inglés.
If I won the lottery, I would buy a yacht.	Si ganara la lotería, compraría un yate.
If I had a thousand dollars, I would buy a new iPhone.	Si tuviera mil dólares, compraría un nuevo iPhone.
If I were French, I would live in Paris.	Si yo fuera francés, viviría en París.
If the house were cheaper, I would buy it.	Si la casa fuera más barata, la compraría.
If I won a million dollars, I would travel around the world.	Si ganara un millón de dólares, viajaría alrededor del mundo.
If you were younger, you would run faster.	Si fueras más joven, correrías más rápido.
If you were a doctor, you would have money.	Si fueras médico, tendrías dinero.
If I were rich, I would help poor people.	Si fuera rico, ayudaría a la gente pobre.
