Modal Perfect / Modal Perfecto

El Modal Perfect combina un verbo modal con have y un Past Participle para expresar deducciones, posibilidades, arrepentimientos y situaciones hipotéticas en el pasado.

La estructura es la siguiente:

Modal + have + Past Participle

A continuación los usos más frecuentes:

Must have + Past Participle

Must have expresa una deducción lógica con alta certeza sobre algo que ocurrió en el pasado.

Example	Translation
She must have forgotten the meeting.	Ella debe haber olvidado la reunión.
He must have taken the wrong bus.	Él debe haber tomado el autobús equivocado.
They must have left early.	Ellos deben haberse ido temprano.
She must have studied a lot.	Ella debe haber estudiado mucho.
They must have arrived already.	Ellos deben haber llegado ya.

Might have / May have + Past Participle

Might have y may have expresan una posibilidad en el pasado. Son intercambiables en la mayoría de los contextos.

Example	Translation
She might have forgotten her keys.	Ella podría haber olvidado sus llaves.
He might have gone to the store.	Él podría haber ido a la tienda.
They might have taken a taxi.	Ellos podrían haber tomado un taxi.
She may have forgotten the address.	Ella puede haber olvidado la dirección.
He may have gone home early.	Él puede haberse ido a casa temprano.
They may have found a solution.	Ellos pueden haber encontrado una solución.

Could have + Past Participle

Could have expresa que algo era posible en el pasado pero no ocurrió. Se usa frecuentemente para señalar una oportunidad perdida o una alternativa que no se tomó.

She could have called me.	Ella podría haberme llamado.
He could have helped you.	Él podría haberte ayudado.
They could have finished earlier.	Ellos podrían haber terminado antes.
She could have told the truth.	Ella podría haber dicho la verdad.
He could have studied more.	Él podría haber estudiado más.

Should have + Past Participle

Should have expresa que algo era lo correcto o esperado en el pasado pero no ocurrió. Se usa para expresar arrepentimiento o crítica.

She should have called her mother.	Ella debería haber llamado a su madre.
He should have studied for the test.	Él debería haber estudiado para el examen.
They should have arrived on time.	Ellos deberían haber llegado a tiempo.
She should have brought her jacket.	Ella debería haber traído su chaqueta.
He should have apologized earlier.	Él debería haber pedido disculpas antes.

Should not have expresa que algo que ocurrió en el pasado fue un error.

She should not have said that.	Ella no debería haber dicho eso.
He should not have driven so fast.	Él no debería haber conducido tan rápido.
They should not have ignored the warning.	Ellos no deberían haber ignorado la advertencia.
She should not have trusted him.	Ella no debería haber confiado en él.
He should not have spent so much money.	Él no debería haber gastado tanto dinero.

Cannot have + Past Participle

Cannot have expresa la certeza de que algo no ocurrió en el pasado. Es lo opuesto de must have.

Example	Translation
She cannot have finished already.	Ella no puede haber terminado ya.
He cannot have said that.	Él no puede haber dicho eso.
They cannot have forgotten the date.	Ellos no pueden haber olvidado la fecha.
She cannot have taken your keys.	Ella no puede haber tomado tus llaves.
He cannot have forgotten your birthday.	Él no puede haber olvidado tu cumpleaños.

Would have + Past Participle

Would have se utiliza para expresar situaciones hipotéticas en el pasado: lo que habría ocurrido si las circunstancias hubieran sido diferentes. Es la estructura del Tercer Condicional.

Example	Translation
She would have helped you.	Ella te habría ayudado.
He would have come earlier.	Él habría llegado antes.
They would have finished on time.	Ellos habrían terminado a tiempo.
She would have told you the truth.	Ella te habría dicho la verdad.
He would have taken the job.	Él habría tomado el trabajo.

Would not have expresa la situación hipotética negativa.

She would not have said that.	Ella no habría dicho eso.
He would not have left without you.	Él no se habría ido sin ti.
They would not have canceled the trip.	Ellos no habrían cancelado el viaje.
She would not have trusted him.	Ella no habría confiado en él.
He would not have made that mistake.	Él no habría cometido ese error.
