Quantifiers/Cuantificadores

Los quantifiers/cuantificadores se utilizan para responder a las preguntas:

• How much?/¿Cuánto?
• How many?/¿Cuántos?

Para utilizar los quantifiers/cuantificadores debes saber determinar si un nombre o sustantivo es countable/contable o uncountable/no contable.

Errores comunes

El error más frecuente es usar many/few con un sustantivo incontable o much/little con uno contable — antes de elegir el cuantificador, primero hay que identificar de qué tipo es el sustantivo.

Notas adicionales

• A lot of, lots of, some, any, enough, plenty of, none of y most funcionan con ambos tipos de sustantivo — son la opción segura cuando no estás seguro si algo es contable o incontable. Si dudas, usa uno de estos en vez de arriesgarte con many/much o few/little.
• "Few"/"little" (sin "a") y "a few"/"a little" (con "a") no significan lo mismo — casi se contradicen. "Few"/"little" tienen un matiz negativo (casi nada, no suficiente): I have few friends = tengo pocos amigos, casi ninguno. "A few"/"a little" tienen un matiz positivo (algo, aunque no mucho): I have a few friends = tengo algunos amigos. Esta distinción no está en la tabla de arriba pero es una de las más importantes del tema.
• "Some" se usa en afirmativas, "any" en negativas e interrogativas — con contables e incontables por igual. I have some friends / I don't have any friends / Do you have any friends? — el mismo patrón se explica más a fondo en el tema de there is/there are.
